After a long and exhausting Saturday at the Javits Center for the NY Comic Con, I finally get a chance to reflect and rest. First, this was my first time at the NY Con and it was a great experience. The focus was solely on comics with film, games and anime sprinkled in. Whereas the SD Comic Con is all about promoting future films and movie star panels. It was nice to go back to the dedication towards the original medium.
Style.com’s 10th Anniversary T-shirts
Yes, this past wednesday after a grueling morning, I headed down to Madison Square park where I waited 3 people deep for a Style.com 10th anniversary shirt at their pop-up. The shirts are $45 (don’t be fooled and pay an arm and a half on “evil-bay”) and the proceeds go to an organization that helps school get computers for kids.. if only the $5,000 Balmain shirt would go to such a worthy cause. The collaboration features the work of Alexander Wang, Balmain, Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Lanvin, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens and Rodarte.
The “chuckle” moment of the day came from a digital ad sales mignon who chimed, ” Did anyone see the VMA’s.. Nicki Minaj has the biggest ass I’ve ever seen, its soooo gross”. Turned, twirled her hair and waited to pick up her shirt. My first thought was of the intro to ” Baby’s Got back” and after I LOL’s audibly my second thought was.. she’s going to research butt implants on her iphone in 5,4,3,2…
Violet Sightings: Purple Cafe- Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, I gave thanks and went out west to my origins on the West Coast- California.
As luck (and a good friend) would have it, we stumbled upon a bombardment of violet entities while in San Diego and Pacific Beach (or known to locals as “PB” ) is a purple spectacle all on its own- and not in a Barney kinda way.
While lunching, we came up on the Purple Cafe on Grand Ave. Decked out with lavender walls ( and the scent- to add a special touch). It instantly took me away from my fond memories of PB Bar and Grill and, Moondoggies and Typhoon Saloon in the evening. This was the gem that instantly relaxed, drew you in and melted the stress.
My favorite takeaway from the Purple Cafe? The Jimi Hendrix, violet framed piece behind the barista.
