Givenchy Lipstick, Elegant Rouge a review by Broke -Ass Stuart’s Dating Expert Anna G.

Though I’m really more of a berry-colored lipgloss-wearing person on a day-to-day basis, I have recently (in the past 2 years) become curious about actually graduating to wearing bold colors of lipstick. This summer, as I approached the age of 27, I wanted something less “fun” red, i.e. bright, shiny, and loud, and something a little more sophisticated and rich in color. Though I did originally set out to get a red lipstick, I soon discovered that the shades more in the blue and purple families somehow automatically class up a whore-y red base. Maybe that’s why royalty wants to associate itself more with the color purple instead of blood red, though really, who the hell do they think they’re fooling? Anywho, so, when I tried it on– and I’m not gonna lie, that fancy packaging totally swayed me (it’s like repeatedly opening a colorful present just for you from the good people of Givenchy!)– and it proved to be everything I’d hoped for: a deeper, more rich matte color that was still bold enough to wear to a birthday dance party. Unlike some reds, when this fades, it doesn’t make you look like Geri Blank or a drunken bag lady. On the contrary, it can work great as a lipstain, which means that you don’t have to reapply and be looking in the mirror constantly. All in all, this is a great alternative to a basic red. Kind of like how in the early 90s, Temple of The Dog combined the “grunge”-tastic gutteral moans of Eddie Vedder, with the more metal-related, screamy-type sensibilities of Chris Cornell. Though not a very prolific band that immediately springs to mind when thinking about the music of this time period,, who can argue that the song “Hunger Strike” recalls any other time in our collective cultural memory? So, yeah, it’s totally just like that, but with lipstick.
